These days clearly one of the laziest days living in Madrid. Everything ends up in front of computer screen, in a hope of solving and write up the solution.

Finally I decided to walk around, in a hope of finding a chicken soup for my lazy soul. Even though not really exactly what I needed, I found some auto critique for myself. I saw how people have to work hard. Really hard in fact, a waiter at 11 pm, stay outside, in a cold weather, on his 50s or even 60s. A teenage waiter, preparing chair, table and utensils. A little girl helping her grandma selling second hand books. An old man gathering trash looking for valuables. A man crawling into a supermarket trash for edible expired food. My God, I must thankful for how lucky I am.

This time I deeply regret 15-M manifestation in Sol. Their direct engagement with Catholic World Youth Day teenager is really unacceptable. What did they do before these event was finally held?

In my opinion it is a really bad impression among happy teenagers who travel across continent and ocean leaving their family just to visit Madrid and meet the Pope.

Here's the situation on 23.00 of the second day of the JMJ event in Puerta del Sol. Really strange compare to the day before on the first day where hundreds if not thousand of young teenager around the world gather there with their country flags or region and various Catholicism apparels.

Clearly, ones freedom is limited by other's freedom. Respect.

Camera lens indeed has sophisticated mechanical parts. As other mechanical devices, lubrication is an essential treatment. However it doesn't mean that a lens needs lubrication.

Here is a severe example of the impact of a drop of oil on the aperture. The aperture mechanism is using a very light force. Therefore a small inhibitor will affect its functionality. The aperture blade is so light and designed with such kind of matte surface, apparently to prevent any glare. Therefore the oil fill the matte texture of the blade, and the cohesive forces between blades increase, so they are harder to move. Finally the diafragm cannot be changed.

I wonder from where did the oil come from? Apparently it came from the melting grease. But still I'm unsure, it may also came from silly human action.

I feel that in these several recent days I've done nothing meaningful. Stuck in something and made no progress. Just feel horrible somehow.

If this situation would be continuously going on, I think I just merely waste my precious time of the most productive period of my life.

Instead of insisting to move forward, and get stuck, I must step backward, strengthen the foundation and then make a leap jump. Reading some 'ancient' seminal papers is a really good idea. Last time I learnt about a shocking vulnerability exploit. Though it is merely a simple problem on the surface, a deep observation led me to broad fields in computer science. From assembly, memory structure, into security policy. It refreshed and also taught me about the basic knowledge a computer engineer should have.

It is very common that people plan to do something big if they were having secure income or certain wealthiness. They think that money is the panacea.

In fact the existence of this intermediation is undermine their own real power. Economically speaking, man in the middle always takes an amount of profit in every transaction. Therefore they undermine the immediate value in their skill, knowledge, and wisdom. They undermine their presence!

I think people should value their presence more than anything else. There's no substitution for being present.

In today technology age, presence doesn't always mean physically at the same place though.

Another entry about this. Inspired by last speech of BKPM chief in our embassy. Quite glad to know a high level officer who has a far vision on education. In fact he found a foundation on this vision as well.

I hope similar vision can flourish across my country, meanwhile a very bleak view of pseudo-educated people is so apparent, people who have only diplome without outstanding skill or knowledge.

Dignity of a nation

Terrible news storm Indonesia about execution by beheading of a domestic migrant worker in Saudi Arabia(KSA). Public anger sparks and then soon our cripple government issued illogical excuse on how it could happen. Government irresponsibility even so apparent when the officers blame each other just to secure their position. Marty the foreign minister even gave a totally lie statement that KSA apologized for not informing the beheading. This claim immediately denied by KSA. What a shame! I wonder how dare Marty was to lie about other country formal statement.

The shame story did not stop there. Government gave very slow response, that instead of real action to give immediate protection to other workers, the president formed a commission of taskforce and a decree to halt migran workers export starting on August. A faster reaction was given by KSA, they stop issuing working visa starting from July.

Where's our dignity as a nation? It is really a pity to have cowards as our representatives.

Weak leaders may affect many aspects of citizen life. Mostly in negative sense, particularly when engage with foreign interest. A terrible example occured in WW2 where French navy was slaughtered by British one. They actually were friends, but due German occupation of France, and Britain must secure their land from sea invasion, Britain must compromise strong French navy. Unfortunately French admiral did not react immediately. They engaged in northern africa sea and thousand French navy died. If french admiral were a confident man, he would order his men to surrender so then they could fight back Germany, side by side with British.

This movement started on May 15 as a continuation of other smaller movements initiated by young people in response to their bleak future due to unemployment. They named themselves as young people without future who have no job, no house and no fear.

Even though so far I didn't see any clear objective of this movement, clearly we can observe many positive impact of this movement. The best of it is it raised young people conscience. Conscience about future, hard work and struggle. Unlike previous generation, these young people were grown in booming wealth easy life society, following this country joining EU.

Personally I was quite amazed with their effort to manage this movement, meanwhile often their life is about party, alcohol and even drugs. These youngs successfully gain support and inspire other across the country and even abroad. Apparently their peaceful and sympatic actions give positive impression to the people.

Particular to the nucleon of the movement in Sol, I observed an interesting development of a social system. On the first days, people were unorganized, as it was a spontaneous action. Then it becomes more organized by the establishment of assemblies, commissions and more structured 'command center'. Afterward some social norms were also established. For example the assembly suggested the prohibition of alcohol, that followed by beverages street vendors. They also gave critiques to the society, news services, bankers and politicians.

Nowdays the movement has been translated to neighbourhoods, and the regular meeting is called "people's assembly". Their sound and propaganda is not as loud as in pta Sol, but their voice has arrived in the congress and government.

It has been a tough week last week. However it was also a cherish one, because my paper was accepted :)))). Even though it was not the first, since it summarized more than one year of fully dedicated work, I have a huge sentimental feeling of it.

It was the brightest afternoon of the year in Europe, but I felt that I was somewhere in southern hemisphere, suffering of winter solstice, experienced the darkest evening of the year.

One thing I do learn, among other stuffs, is realizing that love is always beautiful, and I must nurture it to make it even more beautiful.

Is Hawking right?

Following his latest book, Stephen Hawking faces many protests and event condemnation from religious groups. Basically he stated that the universe is created from nothing, not by any trancendental power as religious believe.

In my opinion these religious people are just too reactive. Sometimes it even worst, they challenge Hawking's knowledge with their ignorance and conspiracious statement. This kind of action will only makes people laugh due to its baseless supports and then raises doubtful feeling about religion, particularly among young thinker. This is definitely dangerous!

Therefore I suggest a proporsional and less reactive counter to Hawking's knowledge. A preacher who doesn't even know Newton law in physics, should not give any 'scientific' counter argument. Just revisit the foundation of faith, that there is some trancendental matter that cannot be reasoned.

But, is actually Hawking statement based on solid theory? I don't know, the reporter might be spun, or misinterpreted his intention.

Furthermore does the solid theory violates religious values? I don't think so, though it clearly againsts certain interpretation. For example in the holy Quran, God only said (yes, I'm a devout religious) that human was created from soil or universe were created by Him. There's no further explicit explanation on how it was done. Therefore any theory can emerge in between, including Hawking's one.

How about Hawking's theory? According to other theory there are still loopholes in his theory. Moreover even if it's correct, it won't negate the existence of God.

We should not think of being so important, so God created human in a way such as a child creates a clay statue. Instead it would like process where an engineer creates a CNC machine to shape the raw clay, but God must be better than that. Instead, He created an advanced mechanism to create human by creating the source of the caused of these entire creations. For example, for creating human, God merely creating this universe with its complete rules of interaction among its elements, where at certain point this interaction will create living element and so on and so forth so finally human is created. But the probability is so small! Don't be so naive, do you think just because we think the system is very complex so God cannot ensure a 100 percent accuracy?

What about the universe? I think similarly. Clearly, it is ridiculous to think that that the planets and sun are created in the way we make meat ball or dumpling. Since clearly I'm not smarter than Hawking, instead of proposing my own speculation, I think it is better to use his. The way God created the universe (or multiverse) might coincide with Hawking's theory. But instead of it started from the big-bang, God provided a sufficient condition to make it happened. Definitely He even created an earlier phase of all these thing, e.g. the cause of cause of the caused ... of the cause of the cause of big bang. With His 100 percent accuracy, voila here we are.

Socialism and religion

20th century was the bloodiest witness of the emerge of socialism, and also its conflicts against other ideology. As a new ideology, socialism values often conflict with old values, particularly corrupted religious values. We have to emphasize the word corrupted because many opinions say that pure religious values should not violate pure socialism values, so does my opinion.

Socialism values will change society class structure. The ones who are on the top clearly will not let this change happen. They use people religious sentiment to provoke hatred about socialism in society. The most lethal provocation is the accusacion that socialists are atheist and anti-religion. Unfortunately this provocation was taken by communists under Commintern organization, though in its 192x congress Tan Malaka gave opposite statement. Commintern's stance to bring religion as enemy put socialism in religious part of the world in danger. Indonesia is an imminent example of atrocity against socialism, particularly communism. Guevara's war in bolivia was also got obstacles from accusation that communism in Cuba annihilated church and catholics institution. A Bolivian soldier, who was apparently a devout religious, ask him about the existence of religion in Cuba when Che platoon captured by Bolivian army. It showed how useful this religious propaganda for tackling socialism.

However in many places, socialism in its political form, communism, promoted bloody movements against religion as well. These actions were lethal suicide for socialism itself. Even a small incident got an enormous amplification due to religious sentimentalism, that turned out to be used to accuse any socialist. Many pure socialist movements became victims of this generalisation of accusation. Even sometimes a non-socialist movement which is merely related to socialist one might get the accusation as well. The fall of Spain second republic maybe a good example of this case. How Franco's fascist power with the assistance of Hitler's Nazi exterminated the Republicans was directly or indirectly fueled by the same sentiment. Some communist promoted atrocities in many ways, from executing jesuit priest, burning churches and even trying to destroy Gaudi's sagrada familia in Barcelona. The impact was horrible. Any communist or accused as communist was shot dead across Spain, regardless their religious view, some fled abroad. Unfortunately those people were knowledgeable persons. This might be a good explanation for Spain retardation for the next several dozen of years. Yes if we turn to far east we'll find the similar case in Indonesia. Unfortunately there's no such kind of european union to accelerate the development of Indonesia just the way it happened in Spain for this last 15 years.

It is such a contradictory that a country which has "keadilan SOSIAL bagi seluruh rakyat Indonesia" in its nation philosophy became so anti-socialist.

Recently I develop my thesis on this matter. Mainly it is caused by the failure of hard working culture. In other word, the failure of parent to educate their children. Moreover it is rooted on the concept of ownership and trust. Parents cling their property so hard as private, so instead of giving responsibility to outstanding person to handle the company, they would hand it to their son or daughter, regardless their competence. This situation is worsened by the nature of distrust in the society, in which it is forcing people to hand their business to their close relatives only. Last but not least is the cripple law enforcement. These whole things construct a chronic insecurity, put people hopes in question and then in the end people draw a pragmatic conclusion, to secure their life and their family they have, reserve wealth and fortune for generations.

The culture of showing wealth or to be considered as successful person based on the appearance also contributes to the way how children get educated. Society view of success and happy people without considerinq the process to achieve them will influence the children's mind. In the end children will suffer of hardworking deficiency syndrome.

Unemployment rate among young people in this country is really scary, 42 percent. I wonder how the future of this country will be. Education is quite good, but vacancy is too low.

I think this is a picture of an unsynchronous connection between education and industry. This case somehow negate my claim that education should neglect market demand. But I'm sincerely sure that I'm not wrong, that's how education should be, the system in this country just has not met requirements to reach that point. Apparently they havent woke up from euphoria of economic blooming just after this country join european union. Maybe I should agree with my professor statement that it is not about the education, it's about economics. But somehow the system is correllated right?

Today I went to a going to be liquidated computer shop, which tries to sell whatever they have. Even though I never like this shop, somehow I feel sorry to them. How will the future of the employees be? I could feel their sadness, but they tried to be as professional as usual.

The view on second hand shop also depicts the same thing. A lot of professional production tools sold. Guess it is a sign of what. Even they sold their working equipment, how can they work?

Last week there was a demonstration of young people for a demand of certain future. A crowd of young 20-30 year tried to raise people conscience about what really happen and what it will be.

Just seen this brand again on my way along Manzanares river, after a very long time. So it should be a good brand. When I was child my parents bought me an oyama bmx. Unfortunately this bike had pretty bad fate, immediately the accessories were broken and scratches everywhere. A very bitter writing on how american's best engineer offsprings are kidnapped by bankers and financial institutions. I think it occurs in my country as well, obviously. We've invested a lot to our best engineering students. Aagh, you can read the article for the details, "Friends Don’t Let Friends Get Into Finance".

Moreover unlike in US where best schools are private university, in my country best universities are public, thus the operational is burdening taxpayers. That's why we should feel more guilty than those American students. I've seen some friends who stick on engineering field, but apparently they are less fortune than the ones who jump into financial institution (at least from general people point of view).

Once we have short conversation with friends in the lab, then someone came up with a beautiful statement "If you're tired of being poor as researcher, you can go to those 'finance companies'".

A bright idea grab from a talk below. In general he is questioning the mathematics curriculum in this computer age. One suggestion is instead of teaching students to have magnificent skill being computing machinery, it would be better if students are taught to develop that machinery by writing a computer program.

However there is a question left, how we can teach student to have skill for solving basic problems that usually solve without any tool. I feel somehow there are something can be learnt by learning this skillful calculating machinery that might develop our understanding in other field of knowledge.

Just lost important entries on my pda! Apparently a pair of AA batteries can last for two months in this m105.

In today's modern society, it is very rare to see women in modest dress. Even in muslim society, fully veil covered young women still often reveal other part of their body for the sake of up to date fashion.

Few days ago I saw two mormon LDS women missionary on the train. They are young, in the beginning of twenty, wear long skirt, modest dress, just so beatiful. Even thogh I don't agree with mormon religious teaching, as Catholics also consider that it is cult, I really admire their modest dress code. I wonder how hard to live those way of life in this so secular society.

I rarely saw mormon women, but I often saw the young men. They wear modest dress code as well, formal suit, with tie, helmet and bicycle. Here is a movie about this young mormon men during their missionary journey, in comedy plot though, the best two years.

Some Jewish orthodoxes also have modest dress code, here is an example. A good example of humble language, instead of harsh and arrogant that we often see in many religious places.

It has been long time I curious about latin words that have no 'u'-letter. I wonder how 'u' and 'v' are interchange. Finally I got the clue after I learnt Italian pronounciation. Italians pronounce 'v' exactly as 'u' in today's languange. Therefore 'u' can be eliminated just like in old latin alphabet. A concise example is the word 'university'. By pronouncing it as 'uniuersity', it will sound almost the same, thus since latin doesn't have 'u', it is written as 'vniversity'.
Apparently the same argument applies to 'y' and 'i', Yves, Ysabel and so on.

It was in a city bus in nothern Italy. A twenty something man with his at most 10 years old brother. Apparently come from low class Italian family. On a very short time stalking, I really admired them. A very touching moment of heartbreaking conversation. How the the little brother reluctantly left his brother, and how the big brother advice him to hurry go to school and tell him that he must go for working. Wisdom is everywhere.

A touching scene of Bjork's movie last night, "dancer in the dark", made me realize how tough women are. Her child asked her "Why do you keep asking me stupid questions?". I feel really angry and sad to hear that. Angry for the rude question and sad for it somehow resembled myself. Suddenly a really deep sorry clung me. So bad I've treated the woman who always loves me unconditionally.

Nashiruddin Al-Albani. Here is the wiki entry. I shall not give any opinion about his relation to wahabbism or his teaching and judgement on hadits that are considered to be valid for centuries long. I shall only remark his very good and strict understanding of 'sanad' to comprehend Hadits.
He used very strict scientific approach to examine the validity of hadits. Since hadits is not 'provable', its validity depends on the credibility of every person who are listed on citation. Their honesty, ability to remember or even morality are measurements of their credibility.
Al-Albani re-discovered that there are many well known hadits which do not have credible citation path, so these hadits are considered as weak or even fabricated. This finding left a great legacy to give citation on every occasion when a hadits is told, so audiences can examine its correctness by themselves.
The notion of citation also closes the opportunity of miraculous twisted religious teaching. But it opens opportunity of ordinary people who have knowledge to argue with 'holy' people. Using the help of technology, this act is even easier, therefore single interpretation that might be twisted can be avoided. Everybody will be able to contribute and argue logically, regardless their background knowledge. However it may ignite reluctancy to people who think that ordinary people CANNOT interpret religious teaching. Only the ones with broad knowledge are allowed to do that. Agree with that, however when these 'knowledgable holy' people issue a decree that has no valid citation or cannot be inferred from valid citation then this kind of decree should be simply rejected.

This country is really incredible! Behind a such kind of a country there must be incredible people.
Anywhere you go visiting education or research center, very probably you'll find Indian. This achievement is impossible unless they have a top notch education system.
Amid the very diverse culture, religion and civilization, India steadily grows and overcomes her problem. Having billions of population, one can argue this number of smart people might be merely a matter of probability. Moreover there are uncountable problems there. However this statistics is somewhat too good to be compared against other developing countries.
India has many good universities, which are scattered in various states. Then each year many of their alum go to university abroad, and some of them are the best university. Still this is not the picture of India education in general, which is pretty bleak actually. However they already have many university graduates as locomotives.
Despite bleak education quality, India succesfully educate her people about equality, and merit system. The result can be seen on goverment cabinet composition, which is full of professional with various race and religion background. Apparently these people are the ones who drive India to the bright path. Unlike the case of less mature developing countries, India elites succesfully ditch their personal greedy interest and put their people and future interest on the first place. I argue that this implies the people who vote them as well. Instead of vote and install political clowns, they pick up professionals graduated from famous major university around the world. Democracy and education must go in parallel to get this effect. Akhir-akhir ini sering mendengarkan kuliah singkat beberapa peneliti dari berbagai bidang ilmu komputer. Sangat menarik, membuka wawasan dan sangat mengesankan. Namun jika mengingat kondisi tanah air hal semacam ini hanya membuat sedih saja. Ingin rasanya menjadi seperti mereka, namun sepertinya tidak mudah lagi, mengingat keterbatasan background knowledge yang dimiliki, dan berbagai hal lain yang sepertinya merupakan pembenaran akut atas berbagai kemalasan dan kegagalan.

Ketika kuliah S1 saya cuma mediocre yang harus rajin konsultasi kepada para master untuk bisa dapat nilai baik, sehingga saya tahu betul betapa cerdasnya teman2 saya yang lebih pintar. Andai mereka berdiri di depan ruangan seminar menjelaskan penelitiannya, atau duduk mendengarkan kemudian setelah seminar saya bisa tanya mereka seperti masa kuliah dulu. Kadang saya berharap alangkah beruntungnya jika nanti anak2 kita dididik teman2 kita yang cerdas2 itu dan negeri ini dipimpin oleh mereka. Sayangnya dunia nyata tidak selalu menghargai kesetiaan para pencinta ilmu pengetahuan. Tuntutan kebutuhan dan lingkungan membuat mereka harus bekerja untuk Boston, McKinsey, accenture, E&Y, Total, Chevron dan sejenisnya. Walaupun ada pula yang spartan tapi jumlahnya tak seberapa. Beruntung jika jika spartan ini dari kalangan berada, tapi rasanya terlalu berat jika mereka dari kalangan masyarakat biasa.

Mungkin dengan program semacam ini bisa menghibur teman2 yg cerdas ini walaupun cuma sekedar sebuah foto mereka di depan menara eifel atau pisa di profile jaringan sosial. Membuka harapan bahwa kecintaan mereka pada ilmu yang mereka tekuni ada yang menghargai. Siapa tahu nanti mereka akan mewarnai lembaga2 akademik/riset dunia dan 10-20 tahun lagi memanggil adik2 kelasnya untuk bekerja sama, seperti yang dilakukan orang-orang India dan Cina, dimana 20-30 tahun lagi adik2 kelas itu bisa jadi anak2 kita.

PalmOS

First time I learnt to write program on non-pc machine was on the last year of my bachelor degree, using palm sdk. Nothing special except the input output that must be done through strange GUI interface. I used emulator that claimed to be exact emulation of the real hardware. In old Linux distribution this emulator known as pose, but it no longer exists on new distribution.

Now I have the real Palm gadget, with PalmOS v3.5.2. There are some resources that show how to install linux on it, but I don't want to dismiss the graffiti, though unnatural it is just so cool.
I think I should write a fun stuff on this platform again. The problem is the dead link of the development tools. From this exploration, I learn a notion of cross compiler. Really interesting.

I think I wrote a lot after having this cool historical gadget.

Hopefully Squeeze will solve problems on my lenny, yes indeed.
Installation was done smoothly. Faster booting and shutdown. At first there are still problem with brightness and touchscreen to work together, but lenny trick on manipulating grub loader works perfectly, and anything else just perfect. Even sleep and hibernation features that were unsolved in lenny, now work flawlessly.
Now my laptop is just like an expensive laptop should be.

Warning: probably terrible bug on my BIOS. The touchscreen does not work unless it is in working state in windows. Weird no?

My computer arrived with windows XP professional installed. I don't want to remove it because I want to be able to play some oldskool game during my happy university life. Once I boot my windows sometimes the touchscreen doesn't work. Then I have to reboot it and by chance it work. Before I boot my linux, I have to make sure that the touch screen is working state in windows.

Rumour says that there are bugs in Windows Vista related to the BIOS, then the BIOS manufacturer accommodate this bug and change the correct implementation of the BIOS into something wrong.
Yup it is definitely an ill fate design.
Update: I was wrong. It was caused by additional input device that shift the device numbering N on /dev/input/eventN. However the BIOS rumour is not wrong.

New PDAs

Last week I bought a Palm m105, and today I bough another one, a Handspring visor which was released earlier. They have the same operating system, PalmOS v3.x though different minor version.

I prefer visor appearance that looks modern, like today high-end pda-phone. But both hardware is almost the same, Motorola dragonball 16MHz, infra red and stylus. However I feel m105 has better response, maybe the newer version OS is faster. The power is provided by 2 AAA batteries that are easily found. Though apparently consume more power, visor can preserve its state, when the batteries are removed for short time, unlike m105 that will lose its state once it lose the power.

The m105 was completely new, came with all inside the package box, except the box itself. Meanwhile the visor came with nothing, so I can only use the IrDA connection to communicate with computer.

Paragraphs above are written on Handspring visor which has larger screen, but there is something missing there, note pad, that gives possibility to draw scratches. However I tried to install a third party drawing software. It worked, but I haven't figured out how to transfer the artwork to a pc.

The connection scheme is visor-m105-pc. The m105 uses serial port, so I have to provide usb to serial converter for my laptop which doesn't have serial port. Fortunately my friend gave me one, great! It cost more expensive than the PDAs both. I also eye an apparently usb infrared extension in the 2nd hand shop, it's cheap, but my mean mind still reluctantly agree.

Recent years my interest on this genre grows drastically. From listening, buying the record and even watching the live concert. A pity that I cannot play any piece of them. In fact I cannot play any musical instrument. Maybe someday learning violin would be very sexy. Just the way I thought when I used to see young people with cool musical instruments around Claudio Monteverdi conservatory.

In my opinion, maybe the easiest pieces to enjoy are Canon of Pachelbel and Air of Bach. Once you listen to them you will fall in love. However this time I'd like to share a peaceful composition of Brahms, under direction of Karajan.

ins dtx and sty

Often when we need an extra package on latex we get a zip file contains *.ins and *.dtx. I just learn today that those files will create the *.sty and the documentation.
First run latex on the *.ins (mainly for creating the *.sty) and then run *.dtx several times (mainly for creating the documentation).

Graffiti

Graffiti(1) is an old handwriting input method from Palm. Very fast and accurate, though unnatural. Probably this is the best input method for handwriting, at least a newly released version for Android has just been released.

It maybe a very nice example of an awful impact of a patent infringement. The lost of Palm over Xerox in this case forced Palm to ship its gadget without Graffiti, instead they are shipped with Graffiti2 which is less intuitive. It caused outcry to Palm fans, who have been well trained with Graffiti. Furthermore it might be the cause of the plummet of its market.

second hand market

Nice thing I found in europe is good quality goods in very cheap price. Yes it's not new but it is really ok if you have taste of quality and hi-story. This place is not merely for buying and selling, but it's also a meeting point for hobbyist and collectors.

Second hand market is such a museum, but you can buy what you like. By curiosity I almost always visit this market every week, and everytime I go there I can always find something new. It's not always the case that I bought something because I need it, often merely because of curiosity, incredibly nice price or hi-story. Nice price is the most important here, though it leads to consumerism, but I've been euro wise, so I think it is time to be cent foolish now :D.

Recently I found that there are second hand shops as well. They offer better and somewhat cheaper produtc than the market. Best thing of shop is you don't have to bargain. However in market there are many human interest sides that may enrich our life,

Ebay or any online shopping site become uninteresting, though sometimes I use them for price reference.

It's not about the mail client!

It was a long struggle to compose a non computing stuff dan end up in a month without posting anything.

Though I had lived in this country in 2008, but I felt in that time the homeless phenomenon was not as apparent as today. I think the economic downfall is the culprit. The economic crisis has triggered social crisis. Today homeless can be easily found in any corner of the city. Fortunately unlike other countries in this continent, this country is pretty warm. Criminal cases and homicides soar in daily news, unlike two years ago when the death of a child became a national issue for months.

Actually the first time I had awareness on this matter was when I visited Verona. We walked around Piazza Erbe, then spotted a nice looking antique building nearby and went there. I saw several homeless there. I wanted to take some pictures, but I just didn't dare to. Suddenly a man shouted and point out to the homeless sleeping there, "This is a living monument of Italy". [He was shouting quite loud so the sound awoke the mutts.]

I thought this only occurs in the poor Italia regions, but in the richest part, this phenomenon occurs as well. I realized it in several last months I lived in Italia. Every time I went home from Trento by train and passed by the small park in front of the station, I saw a group of homeless gathering nearby a car which served meals for them.

Even though the GDP of this country is higher than Italia, actually it is more prone to trouble for it has no strong economic foundation. Economic growth was merely bubble made by construction industries, and now this bubble explodes. It merely has very few strong manufacturing sector as economic support, even though the agricultural is very good for the nice geographical position. Apparently the very long military dictatorship was the culprit of the flaws of economic foundation.

The explosion of the bubble triggered other supporting sector to collaps. The trickle down effect is enormous. Slow but sure the ecomomic contracted, it triggered layoffs, non-performing loan, the plummet of purchasing power, and one of the result of their chained reaction is forcing the people to live on the street.

Everybody in this country is actually covered by social security plan. But the amount which they are received does not guarantee for living properly. It depends on the calculation of how long they actually have ever worked. Even entrepeneurs also get this coverage. They have to report their income and pay monthly social security installments. Sometimes you might notice a small business that apparently unable to cover the daily living cost. Some people suspect that actually they eye for the social security benefit in their retirement age.

Generally the social security benefit will be given after certain year of retiremement age. Therefore until someone reach that year, they cannot get the coverage. It is a pity when somebody have no job but haven't reach the retirement age. There are chances where they'll wait the arrival of this retirement age by being homeless. Recent newspaper draws 4.231.003 people being jobless, it is roughly 10 percent of population. However there is a more scarier figure with regard to the number of jobless among young people. Hopefully the situation will be better soon, so it doesn't bring more people to live on the street in the future.

Multiprocessors are now dominant, but real multiprocessors do not provide the sequentially consistent memory that is assumed by most work on semantics and verification. Instead, they have subtle relaxed (or weak) memory models, usually described only in ambiguous (and sometimes flawed) prose, leading to widespread confusion.

Very scary short information. In fact processors specification which is written on their manual are usually written in obscured sentence, instead of in mathematical notation. There are several reasons for that, either they are simply bug, accommodating future changes or avoid patent infringement.

So the lesson from this is to make sure that your code is robust against this obscure features, particularly when you have to deal with critical software.

Urban Hiking

Yesterday we went hiking to Cercedilla. Very nice, particularly after this very tough week.

I learnt important quote. In hiking sometimes I should look back, watching beautiful scene that I've passed, that might be unseen when I moved advance. I may thankful for how far I have hiked and arrive to certain point, then finally conclude that I shall also reach the peak. However sometimes I should not force myself to reach the peak when there's a sign not to do so, for it may endanger myself or ruin the nature. I think life is just like that.

Recent months I learn more about living in "real" neighbourhood, particularly how the chinese live. I wonder how they can survive in this tough days, when even many spaniard cannot resist. Chinese live their life as merchant, small merchant of food particularly that try to provide daily needs for people who are too busy or lazy to go to the supermarket, or provide stuffs during holidays(yes, they're never closed, unless once during general strike). In the beginning I wonder how they live against cruel supermarket price and very small captive market, but they make it. Their price is more expensive so it is unlikely that people will buy something there unless they don't have any choice, this chinese shops are really helpful actually.

Unlike other immigrants ethnic, chinese live in dignity, live upon their own business. They live really tough life, instead of obtain cheaper reseller price, they merely shop in cheap supermarket with ordinary retail price, and carefully pick the items which are in discount or membership sale program. Once I examined how one of them shop, incredible!, they check each item which are listed on the sale program one by one, take them (sometime all of these sale item).

Configuration for 'optimal' eco performance linux on USB disk

It has been around 1 year I've been using my USB-disk linux installation as my main computing platform. Generally it is slow, particularly for writing. I even feel it runs much slower during shutdown. Just like general flash-disk devices, USB-disks have limited read-write lifetime, therefore I try to minimize any access to the disk. The idea is maximizing the usage of memory for read-write operations that occur very often.
Here are my configuration:

/tmp. This directory is used for temporary read-write by default. I think in some distro this directory is put on memory by default when there are vast amount of memory. I also put the cache of favorite application there. Add a starting script on /etc/rcS.d/. Copy from one of it, change the name into Ssomething and modify the content as the following:

Note: I usually use those two browser, haven't found out where are the cache of opera nor firefox/iceweasel.

Swap file. Never ever use the flash disk as swap file/swap partition, I think it will shortened the lifespan of the disk a lot. I use my unused VGA memory as my swap file. The script is following. Note that sometime you need to run it twice, I don't know why.

CUPS page size error on HP laserjet

From today's experience, I found that it might be caused by wrong PCL option. When I chose PCL6 the page size printed was only halfsized. But after I chose PCL4/5 it was OK.

Printing using command line is the following(watch out the CAPITAL P for specifying page!):
For two sides:

lp -d dest_print -o media=a4 -o sides=two-sided-long-edge -P 1-3 file.pdf

For two sides, each side two pages (for this setting the page numbering is strange, e.g. for printing page 1 to 8 you write -P 1-4, for 15-22 write -P 8-11, and the sides SHORT option is important to prevent having upside down pages):

Challenge of amd64

Succeed with installing 64 bit lenny on my computer, now I have many problem with this 64 bit. At first it was fun, that I had to compile or configure many things, which were not available as is. Now I'm deeply considering of moving back to 32 bit, even on the first day I've asked myself how long I will stand with this 64 bit stuffs. Today I get a bitter experience that I cannot compile a software platform on which I'm working on. The compiler run for hours, but a lot of trailing errors afterward.
The amount of time needed for compilation has discouraged me for doing further observation. I'd like to make it works actually. [Hi this platform uncompiled was not amd64 fault!]
Since the platform only compatible to 32 bit OS, I have to provide all the libraries
needed in 32 bit. Therefore instead of using synaptic debian package manager(which provides 64 bit libraries only by default), I have
to grab the library source code and then recompile it into 32 bit. Details are provided below under installing 32 bit library matter.
Note: many resources in internet about the trouble of linux 64 bit mostly a bit out of date. Lenny has fixed a lot of thing. One useful tips when we cannot find 64bit version of debian is just taking the 64 bit version of ubuntu, it works for me for skype.

Now let me list my footprints until I arrive here:

Wireless, using iwlagn. Note that you must have access to the backport of lenny. If you don't have wired access you can also download the files one by one, and run dpkg -i packageName.deb
Somehow you need to call ifconfig wlan0 up before calling iwconfig
flash plugin was taking a very long way, until I found Debian Lenny 64 bit installation. It is really good. It points to How to get flash working in 64 bit. Follow the instruction! Just remember to download the keyring manually before touch the repository.
Update: Adobe has just provided native 64 bit flash player plugin. Just untar and put the library on place

skype, just grab ubuntu64 deb package from skype's website
pidgin, need to compile the newest distribution from scratch. The binary from repository doesn't provide client for yahoo and msn messenger.
Speaker. My speaker is mono (written as monaural to be cooler). It didn't output sound, even though the headphone jack is work perfectly. Following ubuntuforum about "Headphones work-no internal speaker sound?", I found that debian has a bit different configuration. Debian doesn't have /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, instead it split it into /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and another file /etc/modprobe.d/sound. I change the options on /etc/modprobe.d/sound from

Compile latest kernel. It's supposed to fix backlight problem but gain nothing.
Other thing I get is it "How easy it is to compile kernel". In newer kernel Intel wireless driver is given out of the box. Here the step for kernel compilation, an experience version of this instruction with a fix for lenny:

network manager. I got no luck with gnome network manager with lenny, unlike when I installed ubuntu. Fortunately there is wicd package that work out of the box. Give it a try if you have the same experience :^).

Installing 32 bit library on it. It was a desperate effort, that finally turn into a hack. First install the 64 bit version as usual using synaptic. Then delete the 64 bit library. Afterwards put the 32 bit library on the same place as the location of deleted 64 bit, no need to copy the symlink, ldconfig will do it for you. Run ldconfig. voila! Here is the illustration. RESULT: program is compiled, but not run!

Warning!!! All this hacking trick DID NOT work! Finally I do this following to compile my GSL library into 32 bit

$ CFLAGS="-m32 -g -O2" LDFLAGS="-m32" ./configure i386

Backlight control....again. Didn't get any luck from recompiling kernel, again a retried my with other driver module, now it is from Regis Prevot, watchout, the ssl configuration in your browser might be nasty. Just take panasonic_acpi.c and the Makefile. This driver was intended to be used with W7 and W7, that have DVD drive. Since mine is T-series I have to remove all DVD related code. I don't know if it was caused by my highly abusive kernel recompilation so the compilation related to DVD device was failed.

Before loading the new driver, first I have to remove panasonic_laptop module, I dont know how to do it. So I do it brutally, remove the file from the kernel ;^(, then reboot. Run "depmod -a" to remove its entry as well. Finally run "modprobe panasonic_acpi" to load the new driver, this command will not succeed unless you remove the panasonic_laptop module.
Result: The driver is succesfully loaded, but the screen back light is still inaccessible.

Fullscreen problem with mplayer. It's only simple fix on xorg.conf, just add driver to the device.

Touchscreen that haunted me from the beginning finally works pretty well. I use evtouch. Instead of using the installation from debian repository, I used the latest version (0.8.8) and compile it. A simple trick about the installation directory; by default it installs on /usr/local/lib/ but my X cannot find it, and I cannot find how to make it works. So I change the prefix entry on the Makefile, instead of /usr/local, I change it into /usr.

The main issue with the driver from debian repository is its ability to act like mouse. It can only draw horizontal or vertical line.

Here is my xorg.conf entry as the result of try and error calibration process:

Note that the log from /var/log/Xorg.0.log has an entry "Setting screen physical size to 270 x 203"

Screen rotation is pretty simple using xrandr. From shell just type:

Brightness, a success story :D. Just make sure you have "panasonic_laptop" module in your kernel. Run "depmod -a" to make sure everything properly listed, check using "lsmod -a", if not listed run "modprobe panasonic-laptop". Yup that's the preliminary.
This is the most important thing, set the grub! Look for this similar line code on /boot/grub/menu.lst

Installing debian 64 bit on intel laptop from USB flash disk

First of all, in debian, 64 bit for ordinary intel processor is denoted as AMD64
instead of IA64, which is totally different architecture that is die casted
on unpopular intel Itanium processor only.

The procedure is quite simple.

Use unetbootin to create a bootable usb disk debian linux installer. I personally
suggest using [Distribution], then I choose "Debian" and "Stable_HdMedia_x64".
After the process done, check whether /dev/sdX1 mountable. If not try to plug the stick off
and plug it in again, hopefully it will be automounted. From this point forward
I assume we can mount and write into /deb/sdX1, e.g. mount into /mnt/usb/
Download debian-505-amd64-CD-1.iso from debian.org and copy the file into mount point
of /dev/sdX1 (eg. /mnt/usb/). The installer is supposed to fetch this file from
the network. But when we cannot configure our laptop to have internet connection
this should help. Moreover the inetbootin can be configured in Windows!

Voila...
We have a USB installer with full support from CD1 of debian lenny.

I wrote several simple scripts to manipulate the content of files. Most of them are written in bash, but due to my lack of expertise sometimes I mixed bash with make, and perl. It will be very practical.. almost no explanation, but I'll try to gradually improve this article. Here are they:

Find the files with specific content

find . -type f -name "*.bash" -print0|xargs -0  grep -ne "keyword"

Change certain content of files in batch manner. Just copy these script into a command.bash, and change the permission then run it (command filenamepattern old new)

Delete a bunch of file
If you have thousand of files, rm * will not work, therefore here is an alternative. Create a makefile with the following entry and call make clean

Creating tags for emacs


 find . -name "*.[chCH]" -print | etags -

In case you have only few files


 etags file1 file2 ...

Removing Hijriah calendar from islamicfinder.com praying timetable :). Often the hijriah date make me confuse and pick a wrong time. I do it in vi using this search and replace command.

Cleaning carriage return/line feed (crlf) but left double crlf. I use this for formatting my latex style text file (which uses crlf extensively) before I upload it into blogger.

service bagus telkom speedy

Hari itu pas hari minggu, hujan deras. Pas mau magrib internet gak jalan.

Telpon ke customer service telkom disuruh restart dsb, tapi tetap

saja tidak jalan. Akhirnya dijanjikan akan dicek ke rumah.

Sekitar jam 7 malam, beneran ada petugas yang datang, ngecek koneksi dsb.

Eh ternyata memang koneksi ADSL nya yang lepas di central stationnya.

Mas petugasnya nelpon temannya yg bagian jaringan dan akhirnya dibenerin

di centralnya.

Salut.. hari minggu malam2 hujan deras pula. Salut telkom speedy.

Sejauh ini hanya itu saja masalah yg terjadi, speed ke lokal baik2

selalu, sekitar 300kbps. Begitu ngakses di luar IIX.. mampus deh..

laptop baru

Memang bukan "baru laptop", cuman axioo pico.

Diinstali linux ubuntu kemarin, trus hari ini ngurusin wirelessnya, mengikuti petunjuk di sini.

Wah ternyata wifi cardnya bukan intel, cuma Realtek, sama dengan LAN cardnya.

Ada masalah waktu perintah:

make install

ada error berkaitan dengan bounds.c. Untuk mengkompilenya diperlukan source linux, bukan hanya headernya saja. linux-source bisa diinstall lewat synaptics saja, boleh juga pake apt.

Extract file source linux tersebut, kemudian jalankan make install.

Ada sedikit "unsolved mystery" tidak bisa dijalankan dengan sudo make install. Tapi masuk

konsole root (bisa menggunakan sudo su) kemudian jalankan make install.

wireless jalan, tapi harap hati2 kalau ingin beli, di manualnya ada seri dimana wifi adalah piranti optional
key panah terlalu kecil sering kepencet sampingnya, untung cuma tombol ctrl
tombol fn di pojok, cukup bermasalah buat yg suka pake ctrl di kiri. oooh emacs!
webcam jalan juga.. tanpa instalasi apapun
prosesornya support hyperthreading
suaranya kecil banget. semoga baik2 saja kalo pake headphone
tombol left & right click keras banget, kurang nyaman.

acer: asli cepat rusak.

That's really true. Zero, I got a dead pixel on the screen from the beginning. First, I got problem with the charger/adapter in less than six months, fortunately they gave me a new one, even though I had to threatened them with law suit because they said my adapter was fake. Second, I lost electricity on my battery. Third, it constantly hang due to horizontal position changing, that force me to treat my mobile laptop as portable desktop. Four, I plug the hardisk off and boot from a usb disk dongle, I made my hardisk as external hardisk until now. Five, I didn't boot at all. From the sound I suspected it might be the DVD/CD-ROM, since I didn't have any moving parts except the fan. So I plug the CD-ROM. This picture is the destructive result.

This morning I bought some fish for nutrition upgrade. There was an old woman ordered a small slice of fish meat. It was expensive, so the woman said that she only want a small slice. Unfortunately the smallest slice is still quite big for her, and the vendor didn't want to cut it smaller. The woman protested and just leaved the shop, meanwhile the vendor has weighted, packed the fish and made the bill. Yes it happened, in europe.

Reading posts on jimmyauw's blog send my memories back when I was child. I bought an amplifier kit for Rp20.000(around USD10), ready to plug without chasis and power supply. Rode bicycle to the town (yes I lived more less 10km outside the town) with Reza, who lived 3-4 km from my home. Now I'm wondering on how we made appointment without phone, sms nor email, it was beautiful day isn't it.
It was quite complete kit, preamp, tone control and power amp. I used a bare casette/tape deck as head unit, and two full range pioneer speakers(grab from my parents stereo set, hmm my parents were quite rich for they afforded to buy this precious portable stereo tape player). It was not very long until Reza generously gave his tape sharp walkman, I used it as my new head unit, it sound definitely better and louder.
The powersupply was 5Ampere trafo, quite big. I didn't assemble it together in a chassis since I need it to fed my head unit(fortunately there was 3V output to feed the walkman battery power). The chassis was half centimeter wooden multiplex and some coconut tree wood, painted red, never finish :(. The driver casing was made made from soft wood(kapuk), ex concrete construction works, painted contemporary also never finished. I almost forgot to mention that this two fullrange speaker was put in the same box! ok I admit it was dumb.
I got cursed by DIY project, modifications. As I remember I only did modification on single capacitor that change the tone higher or lower, given bigger capacity it went lower and vice versa.
Full range was not cool, I wanted extreme bass and treble. I went for one tweeter and one woofer, actually they weren't bought at the same time. Build the case using ex concrete construction works again. It was quite big and time consuming. I meant to build sub woofer actually, but finally it went to single channel of my stereo, and the other two fullrange went to other channel. Another blatant dumb.
It sounds, good? well everything is relative. This system filled days of my adolescence for couple(4-5) years. I think it was not the amp, the head unit was the most important.. thank Za :D.
Many casettes were played on it, as I remember only one was copied version, the rest were originals; Iwan Fals(a lot), P-Project(I knew their parodical songs version more than the originals), dewa19(all of their album), Def Leppard (a bunch of them), MLTR(yes we're chicks), Saigon Kick(sometime also kick out), Kenny G, SlanK, Oasis, Alanis Morissette, Green Day, Metallica, Sherina(when she was cute), and many more. Most of them were borrowed.
After some years in university I feel that I lost my respect to music, probably due to mp3 format that can be easily copied and pasted. I feel sorry for myself, I lost respect to what I loved. Practically I never bought a single song/album after I leave my fancy audio system.

copy paste clipboard into emacs

It was quite long time I could not find out how to copy clipboard into emacs editor. I didn't find any clue, even in the information flooded internet. Until my linux freaky friend told me how to do it.

The solution is very simple. It is a simple basic principle in linux. Block the text you want to copy using mouse. Move to emacs screen, put your mouse cursor in desired position. Press middle click, or in some laptop this middle click is emulated by clicking left and right click together.

free will

Melanjutkan bahasan tentang finite of an infinite yang dikaitkan dengan free will, dalam bahasa Indonesia adalah kebebasan berkehendak. Kayaknya Miss Indonesia 2009 gak bisa deh mengartikan free will ini ke bahasa Indonesia.

Adalah Benedictus Spinoza yang merumuskan bahwa sebenarnya manusia tidak mempunya free will. Sebuah pernyataan yang sesuai dengan teori saya. Berikut pernyataan Spinoza,

"There is no mind absolute or free will, but the mind is determined for willing this or that by a cause which is determined in its turn by another cause, and this one again by another, and so on to infinity."

Penafsiran saya free will itu memang tidak ada, semua hal itu ditentukan oleh hal-hal lain. Jadi ketika suatu hal tidak diajarkan, atau suatu hal tidak dapat dihasilkan melalui suatu penalaran(dari hal-hal yang diajarkan) maka hal itu tidak akan ada. Lebih lanjut tentang hal-hal lain yang disebabkan oleh hal-hal lain dan seterusnya sampai infinite akan sampai pada pernyataan yang sama dengan masalah infinity, finite ke mana?

Hambatan Struktural dalam Pendidikan

Sebuah postingan menarik tentang "Beasiswa ITB untuk Semua", yang membuktikan bahwa pintar saja tidak cukup untuk menikmati kuliah. Masih ada banyak
halangan struktural yang menghambat bahkan menghentikan kesempatan anak bangsa melanjutkan pendidikan tinggi. Dalam kisah berikut ini saja saya temukan antara lain:
1. Lingkungan yang belum sadar akan perlunya pendidikan. Tidak adanya dukungan lingkungan atau bahkan cemoohan dari lingkungan akan membuat siswa sepintar apapun kehilangan motivasi.
2. Keperluan surat-surat legal. Hal ini merupakan dampak atas kurangnya pengetahuan orang tua, kondisi ekonomi dan kondisi tempat tinggal yang jauh dari pusat administrasi pemerintahan.
3. Kemampuan ekonomi orang tua.
4. Lokasi tempat tinggal

Dengan berbagai hambatan tersebut diatas jelas bisa membuat kandidat mahasiswa berkecil hati, putus asa dan berhenti. Namun dengan bimbingan, pengorbanan dan usaha orang-orang yang mau dan mampu hambatan tersebut bisa sirna. Hanyalah keajaiban yang bisa membuat siswa-siswa ini keluar dari belenggu lingkungannya, disinilah diperlukan keberadaan pihak lain yang mau dan mampu mewujudkan mimpinya. Saya yakin sebenarnya banyak orang yang mau membantu tapi tidak mampu, ataupun mampu membantu juga tapi butuh teman seperjuangan. Kemauan dan kemampuan hanya akan jadi angan-angan jika tidak dikelola dengan baik, namun ketika hal kecil-kecil itu bisa dikelola sebuah karya besar akhirnya bisa tercipta.

ITB untuk Semua: The Experience

Ketika Lemet mengajak saya untuk terlibat di program beasiswa ini, saya
tidak menyangka bahwa akan semenguras emosi seperti ini. Saya pikir, ini
akan jadi sebuah pengalaman yang biasa-biasa saja.

Akan tetapi, ternyata pengalaman yang saya rasakan berbeda. Saya ikut
terlibat, berkali-kali menangis dan tertawa ketika anak-anak itu menangis
dan tertawa. Padahal saya tidak kenal mereka.

Dimulai ketika proses seleksi dan saya harus membaca aplikasi sekitar 100-an
buat dinilai. Reaksi saya beragam terhadap aplikasi yang saya baca. Kadang
saya marah, karena saya merasa si anak tidak melakukan apa-apa kecuali
mengeksploitasi kemiskinannya (please..ini bukan ajang reality show..),
kadang saya ikut menangis dan ikut marah. Kesedihan dan kemarahan terhadap
sistem yang seringkali terbaca di aplikasi itu. Anak-anak perkasa yang
membuat saya malu karena saya-dibandingkan mereka-terasa begitu lemah.
Kemalangan yang sering saya rasakan terasa tidak sebanding dengan mereka.
Rata-rata memuja ITB. Ketika kemarin saya bilang, pada seorang anak peserta
beasiswa yang ke Bandung, bahwa ITB tidak seharusnya semahal ini, dia
menatap saya, dan berkata, wajar, dengan kualitas seperti ITB...dan saya
balik menatap dia dengan sedih, tidakkah ketika perguruan tinggi yang
harusnya memberikan tempat buat semua orang yang memiliki kapasitas kini
diembel-embeli juga kemampuan secara finansial sudah merenggut harapan akan
perubahan masa depannya? Si anak itu tidak menyadarinya, bahwa negara sudah
bersikap tidak adil padanya...

Naik turunnya emosi saya kemudian benar-benar terjadi ketika proses
pengumpulan 200 siswa SMA terpilih untuk mengikuti proses seleksi USM di
Bandung. Saya bertugas menghubungi 12 anak untuk memastikan perjalanan
mereka lancar sampai Bandung. Rata-rata mereka antusias. Ada yang cemas
karena tidak mau naik pesawat. Ada yang saya sampai harus membujuk ayahnya
supaya melepaskan anak perempuannya sendiri pergi ke Bandung dari Belitung
yang jauh, dan beliau menelpon saya setiap menit setelah anaknya berangkat,
ingin tahu kabarnya. Ada yang cerewet dan tidak berhenti bertanya. Ada yang
tidak ditemukan. Satu anak. Adi Wijaya. Di sebuah daerah antah berantah di
Lampung Selatan. Tidak ada telpon, tidak ada internet. Saya bingung.
Kesempatan ini tidak boleh dibuang. Untungnya, pada saat-saat yang mepet,
Febi (alumni Gea 94) menghubungi Rezi dan Mbak Nunik, pasangan suami istri
alumni Fisika 93, dan pada malam keberangkatan ke Bandung, berangkatlah
mereka dari Bandar Lampung ke Lampung Selatan mencari Adi Wijaya. Satu
kampung diubek-ubek. Alamatnya tidak jelas. Akhirnya, Mbak Nunik 'menyeret'
sang kepala desa' mencari, dan pukul lima sore, mereka berhasil menemukan
Adi WIjaya yang kebingungan. Tes USM? Ke Bandung? Saya bilang, tiket bis ke
Bandung di Bandar Lampung sudah menanti. 4 temannya yang lain sudah
menunggu. Adi, dengan perbekalan seadanya dan persyaratan yang belum
lengkappun, dikirim Mbak Nunik pukul setengah delapan naik bis ke Bandung.
Wow, ketika dikabari Mbak Nunik bahwa mereka berhasil menemukan Adi, saya
kagum dan merasa, wow..kalau alumni ITB ini bersatu, apa yang tidak bisa
mereka lakukan ya?

Ketika mereka mendaftarkan diri, mulailah masalah itu dimulai. ITB
sebenarnya sudah menyediakan waktu khusus untuk mereka sehingga tidak harus
berdesakan dengan 2000-an peserta lain yang membayar 800 ribu, akan tetapi
miskomunikasi yang terjadi membuat semua orang pontang panting. Tiba-tiba
syarat tes buta warna yang sebelumnya tidak mengemuka muncul. Sempat muncul
kepanikan gimana caranya 200 anak harus tes buta warna dalam waktu dua jam?
Akhirnye beberapa relawan menggiring anak-anak itu ke poli ITB. Karena hari
itu hari Jumat, dan jam 11 tutup, kemudian sebagian digiring ke Boromeus.
Anak-anak itu jalan kesana kemari, kelelahan. Tiba-tiba ada kabar bahwa
loket akan tutup pukul 11 dan anak-anak yang belum mendaftar sampai pukul 11
tidak akan diperbolehkan ikut tes keesokan harinya. Kami semua tercengang.
Langsung beberapa orang mengangkat telpon mencoba mengulur waktu. Pak DL pun
langsung muncul, mencoba membantu melonggarkan peraturan. Akhirnya, waktu
diperpanjang, tapi tes harus beres. Jadilah kami semua berjalan
rektorat-poli Salman-Boromeus tidak berhenti.

Belum selesai. Muncul isu bahwa kartu UN tidak bisa dipakai. Harus surat
keterangan mengikuti UN dari sekolah. Paniklah anak-anak yang tidak
mempunyai surat itu. Adi, yang datang ke Bandung cuma berbekal surat
keterangan domisili dan kartu UN, hampir menangis di loket. 'Mbak, saya ga
boleh daftar,' dia berbisik pada saya dengan wajah bingung. Bapak petugas
kemudian menjelaskan peraturannya. Saya mengangguk, kemudian bercerita
tentang kisah Adi. Si Bapak lalu sepakat, ok, tapi difax ya surat yang belum
lengkap? Adi menggeleng, 'Tidak bisa, Pak.' Si Bapak bertanya.'Masa fax aja
ga ada?' Si Adi dengan tercekat berkata,'Disana bukan Bandung, Pak...'. Saya
menendang kakinya. Sanggupi saja. Nanti kita urus. Adi kemudian mengangguk.
'Iya Pak, nanti saya coba'. Ketika dia kemudian saya tawari makan, dia sudah
ceria lagi.

Perlahan-lahan urusan mulai beres. Anak-anak yang kelelahan mulai makan,
tapi masih semangat. Ketika setelah makan Adi kembali lagi ke loket, tidak
berapa lama kemudian dia kembali lagi ke saya dengan wajah kembali
sedih.'Katanya ga boleh, mbak.' 'Lho, tadi?" "iya, sekarang katanya ga
boleh.'

Saya mulai naik darah.'Kenapa ga boleh?' 'Karena katanya sudah dikasih tau
sebelumnya bahwa harus ada akta kelahiran. Kalau sekarang ga ada akta, ga
boleh.' 'Tapi kan kamu TIDAK TAHU SEBELUMNYA. Surat dari ITB tidak sampai.
Dan kamu cuma punya waktu dua jam buat mempersiapkan diri.' Tiba-tiba saya
ingin menangis. Menatap wajah anak itu, yang bingung, sedih, marah, saya
merasa jadi dirinya, yang hidupnya, nasibnya, dipermainkan sebuah sistem.
Apa tidak ada kebijakan? Tiba-tiba ingat kata-kata kakak ipar saya yang anak
psikologi.'Anak eksakta kan begitu. Kaku. Kadang esensinya ga jelas.' Dan
saya seperti menemukan kebenaran kata-kata itu pada saat itu.'Gimana dong,
Mbak?' 'Balik lagi ke sana.' 'Ga boleh, mbak.' Lalu saya bertanya pada
panitia lain,'Kok ITB ketat sekali sekarang? Dulu saya ga disuruh
menyerahkan akta asli' Seseorang menjawab.'Joki.' Saya menyembur dengan
kesal.'Lihat dong wajahnya. Apa dia bertampang bisa bayar 5 juta buat joki?
Dia bukan MEREKA. Anak-anak yang entah dirinya entah orang tuanya, ingin
masuk ITB dengan segala cara. Saya kemudian meminta seorang teman, yang
setau saya pandai membujuk (:D) untuk menemani Adi. Saya marah. ingin
nangis. saya harus pergi dari sini. ketika endah menelpon saya dan bilang
salah satu anak asuhannya rusak kacamatanya, saya kemudian memilih menemani
anak itu mencari optik.

Ketika jam 5 saya kembali ke lapangan aula barat, adi masih belum terlihat.
juga charly, teman saya itu. saya gundah. saya tanya seorang teman,'gimana
adi?' 'belum, masih dilobi.' saya tambah tidak enak badan. seorang teman
berusaha menghibur dan bilang.'itu yang paling baik buat adi.' saya
menggeleng.'dia mungkin akan sukses tanpa ITB.' saya menggeleng lagi.kenapa
harus begitu sulit untuk anak-anak seperti dia? hidup sudah cukup sulit buat
mereka. apalagi yang harus mereka buktikan pada Tuhan sehingga Tuhan memberi
mereka ujian lagi? saya akhirnya memutuskan pulang. mampir dulu ke
penginapan anak-anak itu, memastikan konsumsi makan malam beres. lalu
pulang. di jalan saya meledak. menangis sepanjang jalan. suami saya
menelpon. dan dengan diiringi isak tangis sayapun bercerita. saya marah,
seperti inikah seharusnya ini berakhir? seperti inikah potret manusia
kebanyakan di negeri ini? akta kelahiran yang dua ratus ribu pasti sulit
untuk sebagian orang. seperti inikah keadilan di negeri ini?

saya tahu kalau saya sudah terlibat emosi terlalu dalam, sayapun berusaha
mengambil jarak. bermain dengan anak-anak saya. walaupun saya tahu, saya
masih berpikir tentang anak satu itu. ketika lemet mengsms bahwa semua
peserta telah beres pendaftarannya, saya cuma mengsms balik dengan satu
kata.'adi?'

alangkah leganya ketika lemet menjawab.'adi aman'. saya mulai tersenyum.
duhh...padahal dia bukan anak saya. saya tidak kenal dia. kenapa saya harus
ikut tersenyum dan menangis bersama dia?

ketika pagi harinya saya harus ke kampus mengantarkan satu anak yang tidak
berseragam-mencari dulu seragamnya-daerah seputar itb sudah penuh sesak.
mobil-mobil bersesakan. dan entah kenapa saya marah. sebal melihat mereka
yang dengan seenaknya menaruh mobil dimana saja, bahkan di tempat yang ada
larangan parkir, hanya karena mereka punya mobil, mereka butuh parkir, dan
anak mereka mau ujian (saya lupa, saya juga bawa mobil...:D tapi saya
rasanya tidak pernah seenaknya). saya marah melihat anak-anak yang dikawal
kedua orangtua dan adik-adiknya menjinjing tas mahal dan mungkin keluaran
bimbel paling canggih melangkah masuk kelas (saya tahu, saya mulai jadi
rasis...padahal mungkin suatu saat saya akan bersikap seperti itu pada anak
saya). saya sedih melihat anak-anak saya, 200 anak itu, harus jalan dari
rektorat ke itb karena jalan macet dan bis tidak bisa lewat. wajah mereka
lelah. mereka tidak mampu ikut bimbel yang harganya selangit. sepatu mereka
pinjaman sehingga longgar dan melecetkan kakinya. saya tidak suka bahwa ITB
tidak mempedulikan kenyataan bahwa pengguna jalan lain terganggu dengan
kemacetan itu. Saya terjebak macet 2 jam dari gelapnyawang ke rektorat yang
kalau ditempuh dengan jalan kaki hanya 5 menit. Apakah itu sebuah tolok ukur
yang harus dibanggakan? Berapa panjang kemacetan karena ujian ITB? Bisa
dibandingkan dengan berapa kilometer antrian orang ingin membeli sepatu
crocs? Apakah ITB sudah direduksi sedemikian rupa sehingga hanya menjadi
barang konsumsi? Seperti sebuah sepatu? Siapa yang punya uang dia yang
dapat?

tiba-tiba merasa berada di tanah asing. saya merasakan campur aduk.
ah...pengalaman yang memperkaya. mudah-mudahan anak-anak perkasa itu
mendapatkan jalan yang paling baik. dan saya, yang disentuh oleh mereka, mau
berbuat sesuatu.

-untuk 200 adik-adikku yang hari ini mengikuti ujian, saya mendoakanmu
dengan tulus. jadi orang yang baik ya. itu yang paling penting. suatu saat,
kamu bisa membantu 200 orang yang lain. dan buat para relawan yang bekerja
tanpa dibayar, tidak dikasi makan, dan tetap semangat 24 jam, two thumbs
up!!!!-

yang juga harus dicatat disini adalah kegigihan para relawan yang tidak ada
duanya. ada yang sampai nyari sendiri ke rumah si anak...febi yang
menggunakan jaringannya (maksudnya, teman dan adiknya) buat mencari
anak-anak yang belum ditemukan, ben yang sampe googling the earth dan
menelponin tiap rumah di satu kompleks untuk sampai ke anak yang dimaksud,
mbak nunik dan rezi yang bela-belain banget. ada yang bayarin peserta dari
kantong sendiri...sungguh memberikan harapan ketika orang-orang mengeluh
pada saya bahwa mereka tidak punya cukup waktu untuk membantu lebih banyak
(atau marah karena mereka tidak bisa membantu!). dan kepeduliannya itu. febi
yang selalu nanya, si adi gimana? (padahal bukan anaknya...). Mbak Nunik
yang berkali-kali menelpon setelah mengirim Adi memastikan anak itu
baik-baik saja, dan kemudian membantu membuatkan surat kelahiran yang baru.
with angels like you (yah, kalian semua volunteer yang tidak saling kenal
tapi teuteup cengengesan)...the world seems a better place...

Little bit late post.
Actually I really surprised with SBY decision to choose Boediono as his vice president candidate. In my opinion Boediono is non partisan. He is totally a professional who is not known in grassroot level. Observing this choice I can figure out that SBY is really confident, and likely this pair will lead this country for the next five years. I pray for them may God lead them to right path to lead this nation to better life.

What's the matter with PKS? Several days ago they made a reactive response to SBY decision to choose Boediono as his vice president candidate. The respons was given by Anis Matta. Some more reactive response even suggested PKS to leave coalition with Demokrat.

Yesterday, in SBY-Boediono candidacy declaration their party leader attended it and vowed this party support to SBY decision. Today I got even more strange news said that the SBY-Boediono speech during their candidacy declaration is following order from PKS. What? Come on don't make people laugh, be humble.

But I still not able to conclude anything, It is right that this a matter of image that is constructed by news, propaganda, whatever and I didn't know which one is correct and what lies behind any statements. But something struck my mind and made me lost a fragment of trust to this party.

Terkejut pagi ini membaca sebuah berita ttg Radya Pustaka yang menuliskan "Go Tik Swan(almarhum)". Betapa kehilangan rasanya, terlebih kabar ini begitu terlambat, beliau meninggal 5 November 2008 yang lalu, pada usia 77 tahun.

Pertama kali mengenal nama ini di kisaran tahun 2004/2005 ketika diadakan pameran batik di aula barat. Sebuah karya beliau dipajang disana, kain pagi sore berlatar putih. Sebuah karya yg sangat indah dan tak terkira bagaimana membuatnya, garis-garis canting yang begitu bersih, tipis, dan tegas. Entah apakah masih ada orang yang bisa membuat karya seindah itu, semoga saja masih ada dan akan selalu ada.

Sugeng tindak Go Tik Swan, semoga diberi kelapangan di alam sana. Karyamu dan namamu akan senantiasa abadi.

Interaction between human and other human.

Yesterday in a bus I saw a hurt feeling scene. A bearded "moslem look like" young man, who didn't know how to behave. He seated without awareness of people around him. Instead of giving his seat to old man or old woman he ignorantly clung his seat and let them stand up. I wonder what is in his head? If he is a muslim it will be a bad image of this wonderful religion. Moreover for sure he is not a good muslim who is taught how to behave among fellow human.

Ironically the native people I met are really much more nicer(this super superlative is intended to emphasized the situation). An old woman who kindly took me to my direction when I asked her and a young woman who come to me and show me how to reach the halte when I was in confusion eventhough I didn't ask her! Amazing.

Ironic.

Pada satu pagi bergerimis, Kamis, 8 Januari 2009. Gerbang Pos Perbatasan Entikong di Kabupaten Sanggau, Kalimantan Barat, sudah ramai dijejali orang dan mobil yang bergegas hendak menyeberang ke Malaysia.
Sebuah bus antarnegara dari Pontianak menuju Kuching berhenti. Para penumpang turun untuk mengecap paspor. Namun, tak ada petugas yang mengecek penumpang yang tetap berada di bus. Sementara itu, Mobil pribadi merayap pelan tanpa dihentikan petugas. Sebagian berpelat nomor Malaysia.
Di Entikong, sebagian penduduknya memang memiliki mobil bernomor polisi Malaysia. Hanya sedikit kendaraan yang berhenti. Dan, mereka segera diserbu calo borang yang menawarkan jasa untuk mengisi formulir keberangkatan dan mengecapkan paspor ke loket imigrasi. Tarifnya Rp 5.000-Rp 10.000 per orang.
”Bahkan, kita juga bisa bawa mobil ke Tebedu, Malaysia, tanpa mengecap paspor maupun mengurus pas masuk untuk mobil,” kata Kepala Desa Entikong Markus Sopyan.
Siang itu kami membuktikan omongan Markus tersebut. Mobil bernomor polisi Kalbar yang kami tumpangi melewati pos imigrasi Entikong tanpa dihentikan petugas. Di pos imigrasi Malaysia, mobil juga bebas melenggang. Kami pun menyusuri Negara Bagian Sarawak tanpa mengecap paspor maupun mengurus izin masuk untuk kendaraan.
Jaringan antarnegara
Melalui Jalan Sutra—istilah setempat untuk jalan utama di wilayah Entikong hingga perbatasan Tebedu—itulah pada 8 Juni 2008, Santi (15)—bukan nama sebenarnya—diselundupkan ke Malaysia tanpa paspor. Siswi kelas II SLTP ini diculik ketika berangkat ke sekolah di Bandar Lampung. Dia dibawa ke Pontianak, disekap di Entikong, lalu dijual kepada sindikat pelacuran di Malaysia.
”Saya membawa dia lewat pos Entikong tanpa diperiksa. Di pos imigrasi sudah ada yang mengatur,” kata Nurdin, anggota jaringan yang bertugas membawa korban melewati pos perbatasan.
Kelonggaran pemeriksaan di gerbang perbatasan Entikong jelas mempermulus gerak sindikat perdagangan manusia antarnegara. Namun, Kepala Kantor Imigrasi Pos Lintas Batas Entikong Sugeng Harjanto membantah keras hal ini. ”Tak mungkin gerbang Entikong dijadikan jalur trafficking. Tak semudah itu membawa korban trafficking lewat pos, kami sudah melakukan pemeriksaan ketat,” katanya.
Sugeng lalu memberi data tentang 91 perempuan dan 15 laki-laki yang ditolak berangkat ke Malaysia selama tahun 2008 karena tak memiliki dokumen lengkap. Pada tahun yang sama, jumlah WNI yang melewati pos perbatasan Entikong ke Malaysia tercatat 225.831 orang.
Namun, Sugeng mengakui, pihaknya memberi kelonggaran kepada warga Entikong untuk lewat tanpa mengecap paspor. ”Imigrasi Malaysia juga melakukan hal yang sama. Staf kami sudah mengenali semua warga Entikong, biasanya mereka hanya belanja ke Tebedu. Jika mau keluar dari Tebedu tanpa paspor, pasti berisiko karena setelah di Serian ada pos pemeriksaan polisi Malaysia,” katanya.
Faktanya, banyak korban trafficking diselundupkan dengan memanfaatkan celah ini. Modusnya, korban dibawa dengan mobil pribadi lewat pos perbatasan seolah-olah hendak belanja. Di Tebedu, korban dijemput anggota sindikat dengan mobil Malaysia.
Enam dari delapan korban trafficking yang kami temui di penampungan Konsulat Jenderal RI di Kuching menyebutkan, mereka masuk ke Malaysia dengan modus ini. Mina (23), juga bukan nama sebenarnya, dibawa Diana dan Tus—keduanya warga Entikong—melewati gerbang Entikong awal Februari 2008. ”Kami naik mobil Kijang merah. Diana dan Tus seperti sudah kenal petugas di perbatasan. Kami tidak diperiksa,” kata Mina.
Kepala Kepolisian Sektor Entikong Ajun Komisaris Miko Indrayana mengakui, bebasnya warga Entikong keluar-masuk pos perbatasan tanpa pemeriksaan paspor rentan disalahgunakan. ”Kami sudah menangkap beberapa pelaku yang akan menyelundupkan orang lewat pos. Korbannya sebagian anak-anak,” ujarnya.
Lebih repot lagi adalah menangkal masuknya korban trafficking yang sudah dibuatkan paspor oleh anggota sindikat. Karut-marut pendataan kependudukan mempermudah pembuatan paspor aspal, asli tapi dengan data palsu.
Seli (16), korban trafficking asal Indramayu, mengaku dibuatkan paspor oleh agen TKI di Jakarta. Namanya diubah, umurnya dituakan menjadi 21 tahun.
Banyak celah untuk menyelundupkan korban ke Malaysia. ”Mobil bernomor polisi Malaysia biasanya tak dihentikan oleh polisi di pos Serian. Yang dihentikan hanya mobil bernomor polisi Indonesia,” kata Ade Alhatta, sopir truk Entikong-Kuching.
Hari itu, Jumat, 9 Januari 2009, tak ada pemeriksaan di pos polisi Malaysia di Serian. Mobil yang kami gunakan melenggang dari Tebedu hingga Kuching. ”Memang tak tiap hari ada pemeriksaan,” kata Ade.
Begitu korban trafficking berada di wilayah Malaysia, mereka dengan mudah dipindahtangankan dan diperlakukan semaunya oleh anggota sindikat. ”Ribuan orang Indonesia diduga terjerat jaringan sindikat trafficking ini,” kata Komisaris Hendra Wirawan, perwakilan Polri di Kuching. Such an explainable stuff during my undergraduate. How could be such programming paradigm get the claws in this respectable area. It's really a great opportunity for computer scientists who cling on scientific field instead of hacking.

It was nine or ten years ago, when I was introduced to LISP and prolog, which that time considered as unprospective programming language, therefore soon they were left and I switched to procedural language; C, pascal and the descendants.

Anyhow I must realize that this is not for mediocre. Meanwhile job market demands more procedural programmer that must be filled.

This post is only encouraging top students to stick to their area of interest instead of devoting theirselves into market demand which is suitable for mediocre like me. Somehow there must be appreciation for hardwork, somewhere!

Christmas morning train

Several days ago I took morning train to go back from a holiday trip. It was 06.30 am to 07.00 am, two days before Christmas. The train stop at every station, it is such kind of regional train. In some small station before the town many students (elementary till senior highschool) get on the train.

Somehow I felt so proud of them, that time the sun was not even rise, sunrise would be one hour later. They are great students. I felt my childhood is nothing compare to theirs. Some glimps of my pass suddenly hit my mind, until it was broken by a beautiful moment across my seat. A pretty little girl received some gifts from her fellow friends. She smiled beautifully that made her looked more beautiful, then said "danke", and then I didn't understand the rest of their conversations.

A gift, a Christmas gift, I thinked. Then I eyed other students, they seemed brought many things in their bags. Beautiful morning view, and I thought it would be more beutiful when they exchange the gifts among their friends.

Recent days I tried to find the lowest memory usage configuration for my computer, because I have only 512 MB of memory. Problem with the battery is considered solved, since I could underclock the CPU to 600MHz, around 40% from its actual capability 1.5GHz. During normal usage it last for around 4 hours. Thanks to a geek who taught me about cpudyn, acpi, etc.

Open audio format ogg seems convincing in reducing audio file size compare to mp3. For a "similar" quality, ogg encodes audio file up to less than 1MB, compare to mp3 which encodes it to 3MB.

But there are still some problem with ogg. It good for final version audio file, which is not to be manipulated. Compare to mp3, ogg has less tools to manipulate it, e.g cutter. Hopefully it will be developed soon.

Kalla ngganjingi, apa-apaan sih yang dikatakan Kalla ini. Ngono ya ngono, ning ya aja ngono lah.

Yusuf Kalla mengatakan pemerintah memiliki kewajibam melindungi semua pengusaha nasional termasuk kelompok Bakrie.

Posting sebelumnya tentang buyback, ternyata harus dicermati dengan seksama. Rasanya apa yang terlihat hanyalah permukaan belaka. Berbagai macam motif dibelakangnya yang sulit dinalar, antara lain:
1. Saham Bumi Resource(IDX:BUMI) yang dijadikan agunan oleh Bakrie untuk ngutang ke finance company di Singapur. Saham ini akhirnya harganya melorot seiring gonjang-ganjing krisis finansial.
2. Rupanya cerita Bumi Resource ini tidak berhenti di situ, IDX sampai memberikan perlakuan khusus kepada BUMI, perdangangan saham BUMI tetap disuspend walaupun suspensi perdagangan di IDX sudah dicabut. Dugaan saya hal ini untuk menjaga harga saham BUMI agar tidak melorot jauh, sehingga Bakrie bisa melakukan antisipasi. Ibu Menteri Keuangan Sri Mulyani sampai dirumorkan mau mengundurkan diri gara2 ini, bravo mBak Ani!. Dikutip dari perspektif, (SM=SMI=Sri Mulyani Indraswari)

Di balik kegembiraan berita kemenangan Obama, Rabu pagi jam 7:30 Sri Mulyani (SMI) perintahkan BUMI dibuka suspension-nya. Lalu Bakrie 'naik banding' ke SBY. Jam 8:30 SBY perintahkan SM tutup lagi listing BUMI di bursa.

Sebagai bawahan SMI laksanakan perintah Presiden, tapi kemudian jam 18:00 ia mengajukan pengunduran diri dari Kabinet. Jam 20:00 SBY panggil SMI minta maaf dan minta dia tidak resign. SMI setuju asal pagi ini BUMI di-release. Maka terjadilah pagi tadi, walaupun tentu saja, dalam 10 menit BUMI sudah suspended lagi karena auto rejection.

Akhirnya keesokan harinya setelah rumor meluas suspensi BUMI dicabut juga, setelah disuspend dari tanggal 7 oktober 2008 s.d. 5 November 2008. Geblek.. regulator pasar dicocok hidungnya dengan semena-mena. Namun dunia tidak bodoh, lewat masa suspensi harga BUMI langsung terjun bebas, dari sebelum suspensi IDR2.875,00 menjadi IDR1.140,00 hari ini. Mari kita lihat berapa sebenarnya harga BUMI sebelum2nya. Menteri BUMN(Sofyan Djalil) mengatakan dalam sebuah artikel di detik, sayang tak berhasil saya temukan lagi bahwa dulu dia beli saham BUMI seharga IDR75,00.

3. Hari ini meneg BUMN, dilaporkan sebuah sebuah LSM ttg pemilikan sahamnya di BUMI, yang konon bakal dibuy back oleh pemerintah dengan uang BUMN. Weleh.., FYI BUMI sebelumnya adalah BUMN yang bergerak di sektor pariwisata. Entah bagaimana ceritanya ketika berpindah tangan ke Bakrie bisa begitu digdaya..menguasai berbagai bisnis pertambangan. Hukum2 ekonomi benar2 sulit diimplementasikan di bumi ini, terlalu banyak invisible hands!

Actually when you play youtube video the browser will cache the video in your local disk, and then the flash-plugin will play it from there. So it would be nice to grab this cache file instead of downloading it again through other website.

Where are the files?
Find them in the browser cache folder. They must be the newest with huge file size, at least 3MB. Copy them into your favorite folder and play them using vlc player, its free and powerful, even though has ugly interface.

Unfortunately this is not always the case. Sometimes the files are secretly encoded so you can not play it correctly.

Today's IDX composite index hit IDR1,166.41. It has fallen almost 50% from last month's value. It seem everybody went silent, even an investing milist which I join is silent as well. Maybe everybody busy on determining whether they'll do cut loss or cut loss. The bruise is too deep to hold the pain. It seems that hold is not an option, since uncertaintity is shadowing all stock exchange around the world, and it seems that the most of the player is merely small time operators with limited fund.

Uncertaintity seems very clear meanwhile dollar rate for buy and sell have range more than IDR1,000.00. Here is the snapshot from Bank Mandiri.

To be frankly, I glad with this dollar price, the higher the better, in a hope that it will stimulate export, and it will became a natural barrier for imported product for entering this country. We must aware that since dollar is weaking againts yuan, "made in china" wont be competitive in America, therefore we could be the next target of these rubbish.

Back to the stock, what the hell happened actually? Is this composite value depicting the real value of the companies, so in past days it was cooked to make it valuable enough to pull foreign credit and investment?

The manual installation was truly scary! compiling one by one the dependencies, and so does the installation using make. Finally my X11 was crashed and I must uninstall the library nervously hoping that everything going back well. A strange thing happened, I could log in as root, but not as regular user! I was really afraid that time, I was clueless since anything I did and read didn't solve the problem, until eventually a pointer telling about disk space solve it. Yes it was out of disk space in my /home directory.

Learning from that experience I tried to do the same using more integrated tools, synaptics. voila! I embrace Lenny, mixing the gnome and the mutant born, half etch and half lenny.

The most bitter thing is upgrading GTK2, which seems totally different from previous version.

I don't believe that he is Vincent Lingga. One of super senior imminent economics journalist, editor and [founder?] of the most respectable Indonesian english newspaper.
Even, his own article was published as special report:

totem video player trouble in iceweasel

Somehow totem video player is set as default video embedded player in iceweasel, but it is not powerful enough actually. After long time living with this trouble, finally it's solved. The idea came after I installed mplayer, a mighty media player.
How?
The plugins are installed in /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins/. But dont worry it's just an information.
Simply uninstall totem plugin library for iceweasel totem-mozilla, and then install mplayer plugin mozilla-mplayer.

Setelah idx disuspend gara2 IHSG turun 10% pemerintah merencanakan membeli saham2 BUMN! Baru tahu kalau kayak gitu namanya buyback. Bagaimanapun BUMN punya arti strategis buat bangsa ini. Jangan kayak me-gawat-i yang dulu malah menjual Indosat, sial bener bangsa ini. Konon indosat dijual 5T di 2004 kepada singtel oleh kroni me-gawat-i, via Laksamana Sukardi ex ketua IA-ITB(sebaiknya namanya di-jenang abang jadi Laksamana Sugali). Kemudian pada tahun indosat 2008 dijual singtel ke Qatar(Qtel) 16T. Gubrak! 4 tahun untung 200% si singtel! Si Mbak Gawat ini dulu dapat apa sih dari singtel? Karena masih suasana lebaran kita juga harus berbaik sangka, mungkin juga mbak Gawat ini dimanfaatkan orang2 sekelilingnya, jadi seperti lakon "Limbuk dadi ratu" .

Nowadays it become like this, below right.

It's right that there one thing that constant in this world c h a n g e!
Even in an imminent computer science standardization organization, this change happens. In only four years, the layers are changed!
Imagine if TCP/IP layers are changed! Internet goes doom!

But in my opinion everything went smoothly, the old layer structure is such a guidance or template that ready to refined. I've learnt OWL in the old time, and it become standard now. In that time there were several other that had the same functionality as OWL, but since OWL was developed by W3C, it become standard for current layer.

by the way, it's an interesting artefact.

Nice news that Kalla felt comfortable with SBY. I think they are the best match for 2009 onwards. Actually I prefer Kalla as president, but it is impossible to win the race against SBY. The best strategy is Kalla waits until 2014, meanwhile he does the best along with SBY.

I think people love SBY, especially farmers. During SBY-JK's rule, common agricultural commodities, such as corn, soya, rice, and cassava reach the best price. At least quoting my friend's father who has his son to pay tax as soon as possible meanwhile the president is SBY. It's a sincere and spontaneous action responding very good agricultural commodities prices. This sincere act is such a silent scream beneath negative news from media, and "populist" NGO.

What about JK?
I think he is a typical person that people dislike, such as Amien Rais. Maybe he is too frankly, even though his words are true, but his words are politically incorrect. His spontaneous comments and statements are smart indeed, but I think these are not grass roots consumption, just like Amien Rais'. Meanwhile he is working together with SBY, JK should shows his humble just as if he was came from middle or lower class. It's hard, since he came from rich(very rich) family. He should save his big laugh, that tends to insult poor people. He should learn to act like SBY, people love that cool SBY action. JK can pay a correographer for that manner.

I hope SBY-JK will work together until 2014, they've made a good foundation for corruption eradication. I hope in five years onwards their efforts and consistency can be enjoyed by all. KPK is my only hope to pull this nation from this pityful condition.

For me it's a useful tools instead of installing a pirated bulky mathlab.
